Club History

The football team was established in the early 1970’s under the remit of Hamilton Baptist Church, players from both the Baptist Church and Selkirk Street Church got together and played in what was the early stages of the Strathclyde Evangelical Churches League. Although many of the players remained the same in 1972 the team changed it’s name and operated under Selkirk Street for the next 7 years. In 1979 the team was officially being run by Bruce Biggart and changed it’s name back to Hamilton Baptist and Bruce would remain at the helm for the next 22 years.

When in 2001 it was time for Bruce to hang up his boots the team looked as if it would fold until Ally Gray took up the mantle and kept the team running with the support of Hamilton Baptist Church.

At the end of the 2006/07 season Ally informed the team members that due to other commitments he would be standing down from running the team. Once again the team looked as if it would fold unless a new church could be found to take over. Fortunately for the players and the team Harvest Christian Fellowship offerred to take over and David McKean with the support of Harvest Christian Fellowship and Maurice Logie (a former member of the Selkirk Street team) would take control at the start of the 2007/08 season. During that season Davy quickly settled in to the role of management and guided the team to promotion to the 1st division in his first season in charge. With the team now operating under the remit and with the continued support of Harvest Christian Fellowship the team name was officially changed to Hamilton Harvest AFC prior to the start of the 2008/09 season.

In the 2009/2010 season Harvest played some nice football at times and maintained a mid table finish, they also reached the semi-final of the Umbro Fraser Trophy.

Although there have been a few name changes the team has been continually running for 39 years, lots of players have been on the books of this football team and each of those players will have their own memories of what the team was like to play for. As the team prepare for a new season with the support and continued prayer of Harvest Christian Fellowship lets make some new memories and in the process lets hope that the people we come in to contact with will see the love of Jesus through our attitude and actions.
