Match Report:

Hamilton Harvest suffered an early exit from the Umbro Fraser Trophy on Saturday after suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Anniesland. Harvest started with Shug in goals, right to left in a back 3 was Iain, Hawky & Wullie McKenna, David Anderson was right wing back and Ritchie slotted in at left wing back, in front of the back 3 was Hammy with JB & Des in front of him with Zuko and Gossy up front, Mark & Zander started on the bench.

Harvest dominated the majority of the first half and found the Anniesland keeper in great form as he denied Harvest of 3 occasions, Anniesland did get forward in the first half but rarely threatened the Harvest goal, their best coming when they tried a quick free kick which Shug collected. With no first half goals both teams went in at the break at 0-0.

The second half was only a few minutes old when Anniesland were awarded a penalty, the ball was knocked forward in to the Harvest area to the feet of the Anniesland striker, Wullie McKenna made what seemed a great challenge and hooked the ball away from the striker and out for a corner, but the 2 players tumbled to the ground and the referee had judged that Wullie had brought the striker down and to the surprise of the Harvest and the Anniesland players the penalty was awarded, the Anniesland skipper stepped up and sent Shug the wrong way to give Anniesland a 1-0 lead. Harvest continued to dominate large parts of the second half but once again found the Anniesland keeper in great from and a few wayward efforts from Harvest meant the Anniesland goal remained in tact. Harvest were then denied a penalty when a scramble in the box resulted in a shot which this time did beat the keeper but was blocked on the line, the Harvest appeals for a penalty fell on deaf ears as the ref had said the player blocked the shot with his shoulder. Harvest kept trying but couldn’t find the net and it was Anniesland that put the game out of site with a second goal 10 minutes from time when a corner was flighted to the back post where the incoming Anniesland player rose above the defence to head the ball in to the top corner. That was it for the scoring and the game ended 2-0 to Anniesland.

Unlucky today guys if possession won games then it would have been all over at half time, wee just need to turn that possession in to goals. Well done to Anniesland who did take the chances they had and Harvest would like to wish them well for the rest of the competition. Have a good week and God Bless.
