Match Report:
Hamilton Harvest’s league campaign continued with a 3-3 draw against KCC on Saturday. Harvest started in a 4-4-2 formation with Shug in goals, right to left in defence was Mark, Smillie, Hawky and Wullie Gillespie, right to left in midfield was David Anderson, John Barr, Wullie McKenna & Davy McKean with Ants & Des leading the attack. Matt, Wullie McKean, Calum & Andy had to settle for a place on the bench.
The game was only a couple of minutes old when KCC took the lead, a corner was swung in from the right and the big striker out jumped the Harvest defence to bullet his header in to the top corner. From the kick off Harvest went right up the park and were awarded a penalty when good work between Wullie Gillespie, Ants and Davy McKean saw Davy burst in to the box where he was upended by the KCC defender, Davy picked himself up and converted the penalty kick to make it 1-1 after only 4 minutes of play. Harvest then grabbed the lead in the 15th minute when good interplay between Des and Ants saw the ball returned to Ants in the box, he touched the ball past the defender and lashed and unstoppable shot past the keeper to make it 2-1. Harvest were on top since taking the lead and their pressure paid off in the 24th minute when they scored their 3rd goal, Des picked up the ball and advanced towards goal and fired a great left foot shot in to the bottom corner to make it 3-1. KCC came back in to the game after this and pulled a goal back in the 39th minute when a long ball over the top was contested between Smillie and the forward, KCC got the break of the ball and it dropped to their forward who was able to toe poke the ball in to the corner from close range. KCC were lifted by this and got the equaliser just before half time when a free kick from the Harvest left was fired in to the back post where a KCC player was all alone on the 6 yard line and he stooped to head the ball in to the net to make it 3-3 and this remained the score until half time.
The second half was a stop start affair with loads of niggling fouls from both teams which broke up the play and neither teams got in to their stride. Both teams however did manage to create a couple of chances, a curling shot from the edge of the Harvest area was turned round the post by Shug in which turned out to be the clearest chance of the second Half for KCC. Harvest did create a couple of chances as well with Davy McKean swivelling and strike a shot which cannoned of the inside of the post and across the line and towards the end of the game their was panic in the KCC penalty area when a Harvest corner was swung in and it took some desperate defending to clear the ball off the goal line. No further goals in the second half meant that both teams had to settle for a point.
Unlucky today guys, a game which we probably should have won, especially with our territorial advantage in the second half but credit to KCC who battled all the way. Well done to Davy McKean, Ants and Des who got the goals and to Des for being awarded the man of the match award. God Bless.
