Match Report:
Hamilton Harvest took on Westwoodhill at Blantyre Sports Centre on Saturday and after putting 12 goals passed the same opposition three days earlier were in confident mood going into this game. Harvest lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Shug in goals, right to left in defence was Omar, Hammy, Jaffa & Aiky, right to left in midfield was Yusef, Davy, Alex and Hawky with Shanksy & Paul leading the attack. Harvest immediately took the game to the visitors as they looked for an early goal, they didn’t have long to wait and took the lead in the 2nd minute. Harvest won a corner on the right and Shanksy delivered a great ball in to the 6 yard area and Alex was unmarked and had the easy task of heading the ball in to the net to make it 1-0. Harvest should have kicked on from this but despite numerous chances were unable to increase their lead and to give some credit to Westwoodhill they were better organized than the previous game and it took some desperate defending to keep the score at 1-0. Westwoodhill didn’t offer much going forward and any time they did get in to the final 3rd the Harvest defence dealt with the danger comfortably and Shug was a mere spectator for the majority of the first half. The second half started and was much like the first as Harvest dominated the game but just couldn’t get that second goal, once again a combination of wasted chances, desperate defending and the Westwoodhill goalie kept the score at 1-0. Despite the missed chances Harvest continued to press forward and did get a second goal in the 55th minute, Paul found space in the Westwoodhill penalty area and fired in a fierce shot which the goalkeeper managed to block with his legs, however the ball deflected up in the air and when it came down Yos was there to fire the ball past the keeper in to the net to make it 2-0. Harvest continued to press forward looking for more goals and got the third goal on 70 minutes, a corner was played in to the box, but was not cleared properly and when the ball fell to Hammy to the right of the Westwoodhill goal, he drilled the ball low and hard across the face of goal in to the far corner of the net to make it 3-0. Harvest were now in scoring mood and scored a 4th 2 minutes later when another low corner by Shanksy in to the near post was flicked on by Hammy and Paul was on hand to tap the ball in to the net from close range. In the 78th minute Paul scored his second and Harvest’s 5th goal when a through ball by Alex split the Westwoodhill defence and Paul latched on to the through ball and drilled the ball under the keeper in to the net. As in the first half Westwoodhill didn’t offer a great deal going forward and the Harvest defence were rarely troubled, Westwoodhill did however manage to register 1 shot at goal in the 80th minute but it was a fairly tame shot and Shug got down well at his near post to smother the ball. With only 5 minutes remaining Harvest completed the scoring and Paul completed his hat-trick, good work by Davy in the midfield as he skipped by challenge after challenge gave him the space to knock the ball between the 2 Westwoodhill defenders and once again Paul was on to it in a flash and fired the ball past the keeper to make the final score 6-0.
Well done guys that’s 18 goals scored against the same opposition in 3 days and helps our goal difference. Well done to Paul, Alex, Hammy & Yos who got their names on the score sheet and to Alex for getting yet another man of the match award. A good victory today, but at times we need to be more ruthless and start taking more of our chances, there may come a time during future games when we only get a few chance and we need to make sure we take these. Let’s keep up the good work and take these recent performances in to the remaining fixtures of the season as we look to secure our place in the 1st division.
