Match Report:
Hamilton Harvest travelled through to Ibrox to take on Victoria Croftfoot on Saturday in what was an earlier than usual kick off. Harvest lined up with Shug in goals, right to left in defence was Daryl, Hammy, Gizzy & Hawky, right to left in midfield was Omar, Paul, Alex & Shanksy and up front were David & William. Harvest were a goal down within the first 5 minutes when a long ball found the Victoria winger, he advanced in to the box and squared the ball, Gizzy done well to cut out the pass, however the ball went straight back to the feet of the winger and he smashed the ball passed Shug from an acute angle. Harvest were finding it difficult as the bright sun shone in their eyes and they were soon 2-0 down, Victoria won a throw in which was played to the edge of the area, the Victoria player was allowed to cushion the ball before laying it back to a team mate who shot and placed the ball in to the bottom left hand corner of the net. As the half wore on Harvest came back in to the game and pulled a goal back just before half time, good passing form the midfield to the wings and back to the midfield had Victoria on the back foot and when Alex picked up the ball 20 yards out the Victoria players stood off him which allowed Alex to bend a superb right foot shot in to the top right hand corner of the net. Harvest then had a great opportunity to equalize before half time when a through ball found William who was then one on one with the Victoria keeper. William hit his shot low and on target but the keeper did well to save and the covering defender cleared the danger. That was the last opportunity of the half and the teams went in at half time with the score at 2-1.
Harvest had ended the first half the better team and they continued this in to the second half as they pushed for an equalizer, however it was Victoria who restored their 2 goal advantage. A corner was flighted to in to the box and a Victoria midfielder lost his man to head the ball past Shug’s despairing dive in to the bottom corner. Despite this set back Harvest dug in and started to dominate the match, and they pulled a goal back mid way through the 2nd half, this time Alex picked the ball up about 25 yards out, shifted on to his left foot and again fired an unstoppable shot in to the top left hand corner. Harvest were boosted by the goal and continued to press for an equalizer and it came in the 75th minute, a long free kick by Hammy found Paul at the back post and he headed the ball back across the keeper in to the opposite corner of the net. With the score now at 3-3 Harvest and Victoria were both looking to win the game and both teams new that the next goal would probably settle the game. Unfortunately for Harvest it was Victoria who stole victory in the dying minutes. With Harvest pushing up Victoria were still dangerous on the break and the ball was moved forward in to the Harvest half, it was then played through to the Victoria striker who found himself with a clear shot at goal, Shug done well to save the strikers shot with his feet, however the ball landed at the feet of a Victoria player who scuffed his shot across the face of goal straight in to the path of an on running team mate who had the easy task of tapping the ball in to the net from close range to make the score 4-3. Harvest felt hard done by as for most of the second half they were the better team.
Unlucky today guys, we need to start being a wee bit tougher and putting ourselves about on the park, we also need to wise up to life in the 1st division and be more ruthless when we have the ball. Well done to Paul who got his name on the score sheet and well done to Alex who scored 2 superb goals and was also awarded the man of the match award. We are playing some good football but unfortunately good football doesn’t win games so let’s start working harder and try and turn these good performances in to wins.
