Match Report:
Hamilton Harvest took on Westwoodhill at the Ballerup pitches on Wednesday night in this re-arranged fixture. Harvest went in to the game looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat on Saturday an lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Shug in goals, right to left at the back were Omar, McK, Hawky & Yos, right to left in midfield were Gizzy, Alex, Hammy & Shanksy and Paul & Davy led the attack. Harvest started the game slowly and it was Westwoodhill who took a shock early lead, a long ball down field was chased by Hawky & the Westwoodhill striker, Shug came to the edge of his area to collect the ball, but a wee defensive mix up meant that Hawky & Shug collided and left the striker with the easy task of knocking the ball in to the empty net. Despite this early setback Harvest were hungry and were creating chances but a combination of goalkeeper and desperate defending kept the score line at 1-0. Westwood then increased their lead with their second shot at goal, Westwoodhill won a free kick about 25 yards from goal and has the ball came over the wall Shug looked to have it covered but as he tried to clear the danger he made a pig’s ear of the clearance and allowed the ball to bounce up of his leg and in to the net to make it 2-0. Harvest then started to dominate possession and were eventually rewarded when Davy pulled a goal back, a neat give and go with Paul, presented Davy with a run in at goal and as the keeper advanced Davy fired the ball under him in to the far corner of the net to make it 2-1. Harvest quickly got in about Westwoodhill and it wasn’t long before the equalizer came, Harvest won a corner on the Westwoodhill left and Shanksy went across and whipped in a fierce ball which flew passed everyone in the box and nestled in the net to make it 2-2. Alex debated after the game that he got a touch to the ball before it went in to the net but in true sportsman style he was happy to award the goal to Shanksy. Westwoodhill were still trying but Harvest were now dominating the play in all areas of the field and it was no surprise when Harvest took the lead, great work by Gizzy on the right saw him hit the bye line and fire in a low cross in to the 6 yard box and Alex was in the right place at the right time to back heel the ball in to the net to make it 3-2. No further goal scoring action in the first half saw the teams go in at half time with the score at 3-2. During half time the first half errors were discussed and then forgot about and when the second half started Harvest were quick out of the blocks as they looked to improve their goal difference against a team who’s defensive record this season has been quite poor. Harvest totally dominated the second half and scored 9 further goals, including a 10 minute hat-trick for Paul who scored the 4th, 5th & 6th goals to make it 6-2, Alex then scored to make it 7-2, Shanksy made it 8-2 and another from Paul made it 9-2. Shanksy who had terrorized the Westwoodhill right back for the entire game then completed his hat-trick to make it 10-2. Paul then scored his fifth goal and kept his best for last, a neat reverse pass from Gizzy who was now playing in midfield found Paul’s feet and when it looked as if Paul had maybe taken the ball too wide he wrapped his foot round the ball and fired an unstoppable shot across the keeper in to the far corner of the net to make it 11-2, another outstanding display by Paul who had run the Westwoodhill defence ragged. Alex then completed the scoring in the last few minutes with a glorious strike to complete his hat-trick, he picked the ball up in midfield and advanced forward and as the ball sat up for him about 30 yards from goal he fired a beautiful shot over the goalkeeper in to the top left hand corner of the net to make it 12-2. By this time I think the Westwoodhill players were totally deflated and the referee brought the game to an end.
Well done guys, first let me apologies for the goalkeeping errors which gifted Westwoodhill their 2 goal lead and to say thanks for sparing my blushes by going out and playing some outstanding football and scoring some great goals. Well done to Paul, Shanksy & Alex for completing their hat-tricks but Paul gets the match ball for completing his first. Well done to Davy for also getting his name on the score sheet and despite not scoring more was involved in most if not all of the Harvest goals. Everyone played a vital part in this win and after a slow start we eventually found our feet and played some good football. I know the defence didn’t have a great deal to do throughout most of the game but after we found our feet we coped well with the Westwoodhill attacks. We play the same team again on Saturday so lets have more of the same and this time I’ll try catching the ball and hopefully we can keep a clean sheet and improve our goal difference. Well done lads.
