Match Report:

Hamilton Harvest took on Anniesland at the science parks on Saturday and for the first time this season were able to name the same starting eleven for the second week in a row. Harvest lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Shug in goals, right to left in defence was Yos, Steph, Hawky & Omar, right to left in midfield was Davy, Hammy, Alex & James, with Paul & William leading the attack. Andy, Wullie & David started on the bench.

Harvest were first on the attack with William and Paul getting into good positions but the keeper managed to block both their shots with his legs. The game was quite open and both teams were getting forward and creating chances, however it was Anniesland that grabbed the lead in the 12 minute, Harvest allowed the Anniesland midfielder too much time in the box and he was able to get the ball out of his feet and fire his shot high in to the top corner to make it 1-0. Harvest were quick on the attack after the restart and equalized in the 14th minute, James picked the ball up inside his own half and played a delightful ball down the wing straight to Paul’s feet, Paul controlled the ball and fired in a low cross straight to William who had lost his marker to side foot the ball in to the bottom corner to make it 1-1. Both teams were getting forward in an attempt to grab the lead and Shug had to be on his toes to tip a looping cross from the right over the cross bar. For the most part of the first half there was very little goal mouth action as both defences were coping well when called upon and both teams went in at half time with the score at 1-1.

The second started with Harvest on the front foot, but it was Anniesland who once again took the lead with their first attack of the second half, the ball was played through the middle and in to the box and as ball seemed to be running through to Shug, it took a touch off Steph and the Anniesland played was able to get enough of a touch to the ball amongst all the legs and the ball rolled in to the net to make it 2-1. Harvest once again didn’t let their heads go down and they went straight on the attack and a combination of good defending and goal keeper prevented Harvest from scoring. Harvest then made their first change when Wullie came on to replace William. Wullie went to right midfield and Davy went up front next to Paul. The substitution had immediate effect when Alex slipped the ball through to Davy who took the ball in his stride and slotted the ball past the keeper in to the bottom corner to make it 2-2. Harvest kept up the pressure and increased their lead in the 77th minute when Paul broke in to the box and found James who had time to pick his spot past the keeper to give Harvest the lead for the first time in the match. Harvest then made their final 2 substitutions when Andy replaced Yos at right back and David came on for Paul up front. Anniesland pushed forward in the final stages of the match as they looked for an equalizer however Harvest defended well, as the game entered the final 10 minutes Anniesland were gifted a way back in to the game when they were awarded a penalty, a neat through ball was about to find the strikers feet but as Hawky challenged for the ball he was adjudged to have bundle the striker in the back and the referee awarded the penalty. The Anniesland midfielder stepped up and dispatched his penalty low in to the net, despite Shug getting a hand to the ball he couldn’t keep it out and the scores were level at 3-3. Harvest had a great chance to win the game right at the end when Alex free kick deflected of the wall and fell to James about 8 yards out, but James couldn’t get the ball out of his feet and fired his shot by the post with only the keeper to beat. That was the last of the action and for the second week in row Harvest had to settle for a share of the points.

Well done today guys, despite being a bit wasteful at time with the ball we showed great spirit to come back twice and even take the lead, I’m sure the time will come soon when we are able to see these games out. Well done to William, Davy & James who all scored and to Davy who was awarded the man of the match award. Let’s pick ourselves up as we have a tough game next week against 2nd place Glasgow Nazarene. Have a good week and God Bless.
