Match Report:
Hamilton Harvest took on Glasgow Nazarene on Saturday and came away empty handed after suffering defeat. Harvest lined up in 4-4-2 formation with Shug in goals, right to left in defence was Andy, Steph, Hawky & Omar, right to left in midfield was Scott, Rab, Alex & Yos with Hammy & James leading the attack. Paul & Colin started on the bench. Harvest found themselves a goal down in the first 5 minutes, good work down the Harvest right saw the ball cut back from the bye line and Hawky slid in to try and cut out the ball but only managed to knock the ball in to his own net to Glasgow Nazarene the lead. Glasgow Nazarene started to get the ball down and pass it well and at times Harvest were left chasing shadows. Glasgow Naz were causing Harvest problems down the right and side and passed up a great opportunity to make it 2 when again the ball was cut back from the bye line to the waiting striker but he only managed to hit the bar with his shot. Harvest did get the ball down at times and play some neat football themselves but got little joy out of a solid Glasgow Naz defence. Glasgow Naz did increase their lead when a free kick was floated to the back post, it was headed back across goal straight to the head of the striker and he headed the ball past Shug and in to the net. Harvest then pulled a goal back 10 minutes before half time when a lovely flighted free kick to the back post found the head of Scott who dived to head the ball back across goal and in to the bottom corner. Half time score 2-1. The second half continued in much the way of the first half, Glasgow Nazarene were good with the ball at their feet and always seemed to have a man available to take the ball, and Shug had to be sharp to turn a long range effort round the post. Harvest did play some neat football but at time some good defending prevented the equalizer and the Glasgow Naz keeper was at full stretch to keep out a snap shot from Hammy. Glasgow Naz did get a 3rd goal their play probably deserved when a long range effort seemed to dip over the head of Shug in to the top corner. With only 15 minutes remaining Glasgow Naz put the game out of reach with a 4th goal, a long ball was played over the top of the defence, the Glasgow Naz striker seemed to be about 3 yards off side but the referee waved play on and he rounded Shug and knocked the ball in to the net to make it 4-1. Only 1 other incident of note was when the Glasgow Naz forward was shown a second yellow card and red after a high challenge on Steph, after the Harvest pressed and pressed looking for a goal but some good defending meant that come the final whistle the score line remained at 4-1.
Unlucky today guys, we played well in stages but came up against a really good passing team and its clear to see why they are up near the top of the league. Well done to Scott who scored his first goal for Harvest and to Alex for picking up the man of the match award. Let’s learn from this and take the positives in to our next game.
