Match Report:

Hamilton Harvest took on Greenview at Toryglen on Saturday, Harvest lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Shug in goals, right to left in defence was Andy, Steph, Hawky and Omar, sitting in front of the defence was Hammy & Rab, in front of them was midfield three of Alex on the right, JB in the middle and Davy wide left and William was the lone striker.

The game started and both teams got the ball down and passed it well on the 3G surface, it was end to end stuff in the first 15 minutes, with both defences coping well with what was thrown at them. Harvest almost took the lead in the 18^th minute when Rab picked up the ball in midfield, strode forward and unleashed a left foot effort which beat the keeper but came crashing back off the crossbar. Harvest kept pressing forward and looked dangerous on the break and they took the lead in the 20^th minute, good work down the Harvest left saw the ball played in to Davy’s feet, Davy took the ball in his stride and from the left side of the penalty area drove an unstoppable left foot shot in at the near post to make it 1-0. Harvest then increased their lead in the 22^nd minute, Andy collected the ball in the right back position and played it inside to Rab, Rab immediately played the ball in to the right hand corner back to Andy who had advanced from defence, Andy whipped in a cross which eluded everyone on the 18 yard line and when the ball fell to Rab about 20 yards out on the left of the penalty box Rab fired a fierce left foot shot past the despairing dive of the keeper to make it 2-0, words really don’t do justice to the goal, it was something you had to be there to see to appreciate it. Greenview kept pressing forward looking for the goal that would bring them back in to the game but Harvest defended as a team from front to back to thwart the Greenview attacks. Although Greenview had good possession of the ball and a few efforts which went wide or over the bar only registered one shot on target in the first half which came from free kick. The Greenview captain tried to fool the Harvest defence by playing a low free kick in near post, Hammy read this and cleared the ball back to the midfielder and when he drove the ball at goal Shug got a hand to the ball to deflect it away and the danger was cleared. Harvest by now were right in to their stride, with a solid defence, Hammy, Rab & JB making things tick in the middle and with Alex, Davy out on the wings and William holding the ball up well up front Greenview were finding it difficult to really penetrate the Harvest goal. In the 40^th minute Harvest made it 3-0, a corner from the Harvest right was flighted in to the box by Rab, Steph’s run took away the big defender and Alex nipped in front of his marker to glance his header in to the top corner. Harvest defended well and saw out the first half comfortably, the referee blew the half time whistle and Harvest went in 3-0 up at the break.

The second half started with Greenview on the attack and in fact this was the pattern of the second half as Greenview dominated a large part of the second half as they looked for a way back in to the game, but the whole Harvest team were superb in defending their lead and when harvest broke they were dangerous. A lot of the time when the ball was played up to William he was isolated but nevertheless he held the ball up well and still managed to give the Greenview defenders a hard time as he ran the ball up the park to allow the defence to take a breather. Greenview tried but despite their possession they could not break down a solid Harvest defence and it was Harvest who managed to increase their lead in the 70^th minute with their first real attack of the second half. Omar picked up the ball in the left back area, played the ball inside to Rab, Rab played the ball down the left wing finding Davy who advanced forward and played the ball in to the penalty area to Alex who had lost his marker and he calmly side footed the ball past the keeper to make it 4-0. As the game drew to a close Greenview were still pressing forward and because of this they left space at the back and Harvest almost increased their lead further when a ball forward found William, as the Greenview defence stood static awaiting an offside William raced through on goal and drew a good save from the keeper as he tried to place his shot in to the bottom corner. Again in the dying minutes Harvest had another chance to claim a goal, when Alex picked up the ball in the middle of the park, beat 3 players on his run down the wing, he fired in a low cross which made it way through to Davy who cracked his sliding effort of the post. That was the last of the action and despite being pinned back for much of the second half Harvest ran out 4-0 winners.

Well done today guys a superb performance by everyone, to score 4 goals against the team which boasts the best defensive record in the league is a great achievement. Well done to Alex, Rab & Davy who got their names on the score sheet and to Alex for being awarded the man of the match award although any 1 of the Harvest players would have been worthy of that award.
