Match Report:
Hamilton Harvest took Glasgow Nazarene on Saturday. Harvest lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Shug in goals, right to left in defence was Yos, Steph, Wullie & Andy, right to left in midfield was David, Hammy, Alex & James, with Davy & William leading the attack. Hawky, Paul & John started on the bench.
Harvest were first on the attack and nearly grabbed the lead in the first minute when Davy was first to a knock on and drilled his shot low but the Glasgow Naz keeper got down well to palm the ball away and the danger was cleared. That effort was to be Harvest’s only shot on target in the first half as Glasgow Naz showed why they are joint top of the league and took control of the game, Harvest were struggling to keep tabs on the players as their movement on and off the ball was good. Glasgow Naz took a deserved lead in the 9th minute when an a low ball in to the box was only half cleared and the Glasgow Naz striker was first to the loose ball and from six yards fired the ball high in to the net to make it 1-0. Glasgow Naz then increased their lead in the 12th minute with a great deal of good fortune, a deep cross to the back post was headed down, the on rushing midfielder miss hit his shot, as the ball fell to Wullie at the back post he put his foot through the ball to clear it but the striker was close by and the ball cannoned of the Glasgow Naz striker and deflected in to the bottom corner. The remainder of the first half was mainly played in the Harvest half but despite their dominance in possession Glasgow Naz could not increase their lead and the half time score remained 2-0.
Harvest made their first substitution at half time when John Barr came on to replace David. The second half was more of an even contest as Harvest started competing with Glasgow Naz, however some of Harvest’s good play couldn’t conjure up the goal the needed to get back in to the game. Glasgow Naz were quick on the break and at times in the second half Harvest had to defend well. Glasgow Naz nearly increased their lead when a quick interchange of passes resulted in the ball being laid off to the right back and he directed his shot low in to the corner but Shug got down well and got a strong left hand to the ball to deflect it behind for a corner. The game then turned sour when each team had a player sent off, a long ball forward was being chased by Davy, William and 2 Glasgow Naz defenders, the Glasgow Naz keeper came to collect the ball and clashed with William, among the melee the keeper appeared to throw a punch at William and in the aftermath he also threw the ball of Steph’s face, when the dust settled the referee called William over and sent him off for what he said was a kick at the goal keeper, the Glasgow Naz keeper was also sent off for striking out and both teams were reduced to 10 men. With a wee bit more space on the park the game was quite open, Harvest were chasing a goal to get them back in the game and Glasgow Naz were looking for the goal that would kill the game. As the game came to a close Harvest did get a goal when John Barr was fouled in the area and the referee pointed to the penalty spot, Davy picked up the ball and dispatched his penalty in to the corner to make it 2-1. This was the last kick of the ball as the referee blew the final whistle just as Glasgow Naz kicked off.
Unlucky today guys, it took us about 25 minutes to get going today and by that time we were 2-0 down. We just didn’t seem to get the break of the ball in our area especially for the 2 goals we conceded. Our second half performance was good and we should take the positives from that. Well done to Davy who scored and was awarded the man of the match award. Rest up and let’s take the positives from today in to our next game. God Bless.
