Match Report:
Hamilton Harvest took on Greenbank BB for the second time in a week on Thursday. Due to various absences harvest only brought 11 players to the game and lined up in a 3-5-2 formation with Shug in goals, the 3 in defence were Hawky in the middle, Wullie on his right and Daryl on his left. The 5 in midfield were William on the right, the 3 central midfielders were Hammy, Davy & Colin with Scott on the left and Paul & Kyle lead the attack.
The game started with Harvest on the attack as they looked for an early goal and it nearly came within the first 5 minutes when Paul beat the offside trap and latched on to a neat through ball but the keeper pulled off a great save to deny Paul the opening goal. Greenbank were also pushing forward looking for an early lead but the Harvest defence stood strong and at times Shug was just a spectator. Harvest continued to press forward and cause Greenbank problems especially with the running that Paul and Kyle were doing up front. Harvest then took a deserved lead in the 20th minute, Harvest won a free kick just inside the Greenbank half on the right hand side, Hammy whipped in a great ball which eluded everyone at the front post and found its way to Paul who had run on to the ball and he stooped to bullet a header past the keeper to make it 1-0. The remainder of the half was played out with both teams sharing the possession but neither could find a way past each defence and the score at half time remained 1-0.
Harvest were quick out the traps at the start of the second half and almost grabbed a second goal when a long kick out from Shug was flicked on by Hammy and as the ball dropped in to the Greenbank box Paul came in from the angle and volleyed his shot just over the bar. Greenbank continued to press in the second half in an attempt to get back in to the game but the Harvest defence was solid and there was no way through. Harvest then pressed for a second again and the Greenbank keeper kept the score down with a good save from Davy’s free kick. In the last 20 minutes of the game Greenbank pressed looking for an equalizer and came close when the defender met a ball swung in from a corner but he couldn’t direct his header on target and the ball flew past the post. Greenbank kept throwing the ball in to the Harvest area and a goal mouth scramble ensued but Harvest got a bit of luck and fortunately the ball fell kindly for Harvest and the danger was cleared. Harvest were defending well and the midfield and forwards were doing brilliantly to shut the Greenbank players down and anytime the ball did reach the final 3rd the defence was solid and cleared the danger. Greenbank had further chances and Shug had to be on his toes when the ball was swung in to the box, the Greenbank striker headed the ball back across the goal but Shug shifted his feet quickly to get across and palm the ball away and when the ball was swung back in it was too deep and the danger was cleared. Greenbank had the last opportunity of the game when the ball dropped to the edge of the area and the striker hit a shot but Shug got across his goal well to turn the ball over the bar. The corner was defended brilliantly and the ball was knocked up field where Kyle held the ball up in the corner, the referee blew the final whistle and Harvest ran out 1-0 winners.
Well done tonight guys despite having a make shift team everyone played out their socks and worked hard for each other. Well done to Paul who got what turned out to be the winning goal and to Hammy who was awarded the man of the match award but in fairness anyone of the 11 out there could have got it. Let’s take this good performance in to the next game and hopefully pick up some more league points. Enjoy the rest of your week, God Bless.
