Match Report:
Hamilton Harvest took on Greenview at Blantyre on Saturday in the League, Harvest lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Shug in goals, right to left in defence was Yos, Steph, Hawky & Omar, right to left in midfield was Davy, Hammy, Alex & James, with Paul & William leading the attack. Andy, Wullie & David started on the bench.
The game started with the ball mainly contained within the midfield area with both teams sharing possession. Greenview started to play some good football and used the wings well as they tried to get in to the lead but the Harvest defence was solid despite the height disadvantage. Harvest were also playing some nice football and were the first team to register an effort on goal when William hit a shot from the edge of the area which spun up off the defender, as the ball fell on to Paul’s head he tried to loop his header over the keeper but the keeper collected comfortably from underneath the crossbar. Both defences were on top and the strikers of both teams were getting little joy. Harvest then took the lead in the 20th minute, James picked the ball up on the Harvest left and advanced forward beating 2 Greenview defenders, he looked up and fire a low cross in to the box and Davy McKean got in front of the defender to side foot the ball past the keeper in to the net to make it 1-0. Greenview pressed forward after this looking for a way back in to the match and it nearly came in the 35th minute when the ball was played forward to the striker who held the ball up well and laid it off to an on rushing team mate, he smacked a fierce shot from 20 yards that came of the underside of the crossbar and Steph was first to the rebound to clear the danger. Harvest could have stretched their lead further just before half time when Alex picked the ball up 30 yards from goal, came inside the defender and fired in a low shot which the keeper done well to get a hand to and with no one following in the keeper was able to smother the ball. The referee blew the half time whistle and Harvest went in 1-0 up at the break.
The second half started with Greenview on the attack and this was to set the pattern for the second half as they pinned Harvest back as they tried to get an equalizer. With such a tall front line Greenview were firing crosses in to the Harvest area in an attempt to score but the Harvest defence were strong and defended well. Greenview did get an equalizer that their dominance probably deserved, a corner from the Harvest left was played in and eluded everyone as it dropped to the back post where it was prodded in to the net by a Greenview player despite the attempts from Omar and Shug to keep it out. With the game poised at 1-1 either team could have went on to win it. Harvest had to defend really well and were coping well with what Greenview threw at them. Harvest then regained the lead in the 70th minute when a ball forward to Paul was controlled well, with his back to goal, Paul hooked the ball over the defenders head to the feet of William, Williams first time left foot shot cannoned of the heel of the defender and fell nicely to his right foot and he made no mistake as he buried the ball in the bottom corner to make it 2-1. Greenview really piled on the pressure after this as they sought an equalizer. For the remainder of the game Harvest had defended brilliantly and looked to be heading for a great win, but the relentless pressure finally paid of for Greenview when they got the equalizer with just a minute to go, the ball was played down the wing and knocked in to the box as the ball bobbled around and Harvest attempted to clear Greenview got the break of the ball and the midfielder found the net with a fierce shot from 10 yards to make it 2-2. There was no time for any further attacks and the referee blew the full time whistle and the points were shared.
Well played today guys, a great performance by everyone, it’s a bit hard to take when you loose a last minute goal, but its clear to see why Greenview have only lost 1 league game all season and I’m sure they will be in the mix for the league title come the end of the season. Well done to William McKean and David McKean who got their names on the score sheet and to David for being awarded the man of the match award. Once again well done, have a good week. God Bless.
