Match Report:

Hamilton Harvest took on Motherwell Kings on Saturday looking to bounce back from 2 defeats in a row. Harvest lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Shug in goals, right to left in defence was Daryl, Steph, Hawky & Omar, right to left in midfield was Hammy, JB, Rab & Davy, with Alex & William leading the attack. Wullie, Yos & Kyle started on the bench.

Harvest were quick of the mark and took the lead inside the first 2 minutes when Davy picked the ball up on the left drove forward and fired a low left foot shot in to the bottom corner to make it 1-0. Harvest then went on to dominate the next 10 minutes or so but couldn’t increase their lead. Motherwell then came in to the game and were getting the ball forward, but apart from a few crosses which Shug came to claim they never really troubled the Harvest goal. Motherwell then got back in to the game when the equalized midway through the half after Harvest gave away a cheap free kick and the Motherwell defender stepped up and fired the ball in to the top corner to make it 1-1. Both teams were now pressing forward trying to grab the lead and Harvest almost grabbed a second goal when the ball was played up to William who held the ball up well, he turned and found Rab in the box but the Motherwell keeper threw himself at Rab’s feet and blocked the shot and the ball went out for a corner. It was then Motherwell’s chance to test the Harvest defence when the ball was knocked over the top of the defence, the Motherwell striker managed to get the ball out of his feet but by the time the ball dropped for a shot Daryl was across and made a great block to deny Motherwell a goal. For the majority of the half the ball was contained within the midfield and when the ball was played forward both defences were pretty solid and defended well. There was no further action in the first half and both teams went in level at half time.

The second half started with Harvest pressing forward looking to grab the lead, but were shut out by the Motherwell defence, Motherwell were also pressing forward but at times the final ball wasn’t there and the ball ran through to the Harvest keeper. Harvest’s pressure finally paid off when they took the lead midway through the second half. The ball was played forward to William, he turned and ran at the Motherwell defence then slipped a great ball through to Rab who took a touch to set himself and then he side footed the ball past the keeper in to the bottom corner to make it 2-1. Motherwell were now chasing the game as they looked for an equalizer and they were presented with an opportunity when a long ball forward was allowed to bounce on the Harvest 18 yard line, the bounce deceived Hawky and the Motherwell striker picked the ball up and drove toward goal, with the angle narrowing the striker had better options in the centre but opted to shoot but Shug was down well to block the shot with his foot and the danger was cleared. Harvest then increased their lead further when Hammy picked the ball up on the right and advanced toward goal and from 20 yards out found the bottom corner with a swerving shot which he hit with the outside of his right foot. Harvest then made a couple of substitutions when Wullie replaced Davy at left midfield and Kyle replaced Rab, Kyle went up front with William and Alex dropped back in to the midfield. Motherwell pressed forward looking for a way back in to the game and threw a few crosses in to the Harvest box but the Harvest defence was strong and defended well. As the game drew to a close Harvest made another substitution when Yos came on at right back to replace Daryl. Harvest had the last clear cut chance of the game when the ball was slipped through to Kyle but the Motherwell keeper was quick from his line to shut the ball down and Kyle could only toe poke the ball under him and the ball trickled by the post. The referee then brought the game to a close with the final whistle and Harvest ran out 3-1 winners.
